Homemade lavender neck wraps

Image
I decided to try a new project, lavender neck wraps.  I went to Joann's fabric store and found patterns that were simple enough but had some pattern. I tried to customize the size to whom I was giving the gift to. I didn't take many photos during this project. For the filling, I bought lavender oil and long white rice. I filled the wrap with the rice about half way to estimate how full they should be. I added 5-8 drops of lavender to what size the wrap was, and I let that soak for a night or two continuously shaking the bag. Here is one of the finished wraps I made, I attached a note explaining what the gift was and how to use it. This was a great and inexpensive gift. Here is the website I used  http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Microwaveable-Neck-Wrap

Pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw

Image
Pulled pork sandwiches are so yummy! I made these a while ago and they were a hit. I found this recipe at  http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/BBQ-Pork-for-Sandwiches/Detail.aspx?evt19=1 The link isn't working unless you copy and paste into a search engine Ingredients: 3 pound boneless pork shoulder cut 2 packs of buns coleslaw and dressing this recipe calls for 1 can of beef broth I made my own broth with beef bouillon and water. I used the paste, the ratio to this was 1 tsp to 8 oz. boiling water. I used  1.5   tsp to 10.5 oz water. Then I added the broth into the crock pot followed by the pork. Let this cook for 5.5 hours and then shred the meat.  Once I shredded the meat, I took out some of the broth mix and put the meat back into the pot and added BBQ sauce. I put this on simmer for 20 minutes While this is cooking, I combined the coleslaw and dressing mix. I poured the cabbage a little at a time with the sauce over. Bon ap...

The holidays have been keeping me busy

These past few weeks have been hectic! Friends and family have been arriving from all over and man have I been distracted! I am so blessed to have such a supporting, loving and crazy family! Although I haven't posted for a bit, I have been busy with new crafts and recipes. A few weekends ago, my love and I hosted an ugly sweater party which consisted of making treats and drinks! For some of the gifts I gave this year, I made homemade infused lavender neck wraps and a headband. I am still working on the last scarf I posted (the scarf is for me and since I was making gifts I delayed the project). I promise I will post the recipes and pictures from the party as well as the neck wrap project. I can't wait to share with you all the things I've been up to!

Poached apple with cinnamon and whipped cream

Image
This has been my go to dessert as of late. It's relatively healthy compared to most desserts which is nice, especially around the holiday season! You can poach either an apple or pear.  Here is how to make it.. Poach an apple or pear in either 1/4 cup wine (I used any white wine we had opened) or water, let simmer for 5-10 minutes. Next, you can add any spices you would like but I used cinnamon and topped it with whipped cream. Here it is!

Roasted Whole Chicken and vegetables

Image
One of last weeks meals I enjoyed! 1 whole chicken 1 bag of carrots 1-2 onions 3 russet potatoes  garlic salt butter Directions First, I preheated my oven to 350 degrees, while that was preheating I cleaned out the chicken. Next, I cut up the potates and onions. When the oven was ready, I put the chicken into a clear glass pan and added the potatoes, onions and baby carrots. Next, I added 2-3 Tbs of butter onto the chicken to cook and garlic onto the vegetables with a little bit of salt. I let this cook for about an hour and a half. I served with a side salad.
